The target of the course will be gaining an effective knowledge of the diagnostic and the therapeutic processes involved in treating neurosurgical patients. This knowledge will be indispensable to the future physicians not specifically trained in Neurosurgery to seek neurosurgical assistance for their patients when appropriate, and discuss with the neurosurgeon her/his diagnostic and therapeutic indications.

Oral exam, the grade in Neurosurgery contributes to the final grade of the exam of the integrated course in Neurological Sciences. Final grade calculated as a weighted average = (Neurology grade multiplied * 5 + Neurosurgery grade)/6. The "Laude" will be counted as 1 and the final grade of 30/30 cum laude will be awarded to the student who reaches the value 31 once the weighted average has been calculated.

By attending to the lectures and seminars the student will be able to reach a sufficient knowledge of Neurosurgery to fulfill the requirements of the exam. If she or he prefers a written text there are many resources over the internet provided by the principal neurosurgical associations that are free of charge. A basic text covering most of Neurosurgery: Mark S. Grenberg, Handbook of Neurosurgery. Thieme, New York.
