The lectures present a few basic concepts concerning functional characteristics, design and application of converter-fed electrical machines, in particular induction motors and permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM or brushless motors). A few hints on their control and transient behavior are given: various regulation schemes, e.g. Field Oriented Control, are introduced for torque and speed control for operation in both the constant-torque and field-weakening range.

Written exams sessions will be scheduled in presence, with a short list of topics with multiple questions (open answers). In case, an oral integration can be proposed in order to reach a sufficient score. The interest displayed during the lectures can contribute to the final evaluation.
