The course will provide understanding of the global phenomenon of biological invasions, analysing its causes, consequences on ecosystems and society, and possible management strategies. The course objective is to stimulate a critical attitude towards global trades, resource exploitation, importance of biodiversity conservation.

Online lectures, integrated with online surveys to facilitate interactivity and discussions. Students participating the DIDATTICA INCLUSIVA program will have reserved access to video-recordings of all lectures.
Verifica Apprendimento
The exam consists of 15 multiple-choice questions.
On the days of the exam calendar the online test will be activated at the time indicated in the calendar, and will stay open for 2 hours.
During that time frame, students will have to connect from home and will have exactly 30 minutes to answer the 15 questions. Each correct answer is worth 2 points. Students completing the full exam before 20 minutes, will receive and extra (bonus) point.

Contenuti
Definitions: non-indigenous species, cryptogenic species; pseudo-indigenous species; neocosmopolitan species. Vectors of introduction, following the CBD - Convention on Biological Diversity - classification. Environmental impacts and socio-economic impacts. The challenge of managing invasive alien species. These will be accompanied by several examples, in order to make students familiarise with the most iconic invasive species of Europe. Special focus will be given on aquatic species.
