This course aims at developing knowledge and understanding in several key areas of social cognition and emotional functioning: a) Advanced comprehension of theoretical models and the interpretation of experimental data with reference to social and emotional processes b) Profound understanding of the methods and experimental techniques employed within the field of social cognition and emotional functioning c) Ethical and deontological awareness necessary for conducting experimental procedures in the area of social cognition responsibly.
Furthermore, the course aims to cultivate the ability to apply this knowledge and understanding effectively by: a) enhancing proficiency in executing and assessing applications within experimental contexts in the area of social cognition and emotions b) advancing students’ competences in executing and evaluating applications within clinical environments in the area of cognition and emotions. c) promoting of critical thinking, analytical prowess, and the synthesis of ideas in the area of social cognition and emotions. d) using ethical principles in practical applications and research endeavors in cognition and emotions.
Prerequisiti
Basic knowledge of general psychology and cognitive psychology is required. In particular, knowledge of the following mental processes is required: perception, memory, attention and decision making.
Metodi didattici
This course will adopt a variety of learning methods, by blending traditional lectures with experiential learning activities and incorporating group discussions, case- based analyses, and practical exercises.
Verifica Apprendimento
The exam will be a written examination with 7/8 open-ended questions. The grade will be between 0-30. The exam duration is 60 minutes. The exam will cover the material and topics explained and discussed during the lectures. The students' grades will be determined by the accuracy and clarity of their answers, as well as their ability to explain and critically apply the concepts taught throughout the course.

Contenuti
The course is organized in 3 sections. - Section 1 introduces the basic principles of emotions and specific emotion disorders. - Section 2 introduces the relationship between emotions and cognition, analyzing the effects that our emotional states have upon perception, attention, memory and decision making. - Section 3 discusses some psychological construsts that are based on the interaction between emotions and cognition: theory of mind, empathy and emotional intelligence.
