Prerequisiti
Students must have a foundational understanding of general and cognitive psychology, particularly focusing on memory, attention, and perception.
Metodi didattici
This course will adopt a variety of learning methods, by blending traditional lectures with experiential learning activities and incorporating group discussions, as well as practical exercises
Verifica Apprendimento
The exam will be a written examination with 3 open-ended questions. Each question is worth 10 points, and the total grade will be between 0-30. The exam duration is 30 minutes. The exam will cover the material and topics explained and discussed during the lectures. The students' grades will be determined by the accuracy and clarity of their answers, as well as their ability to explain and critically apply the concepts taught throughout the course.
Testi
Materials (e.g., slides, papers, but also scripts of the software that will be employed) will be made available during the course.
Contenuti
This course serves as an immersive introduction to the principles of Experimental Psychology, designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of classical cognitive research paradigms. Beginning with an exploration of foundational experimental tasks across various cognitive domains, such as the Priming task, Stroop task, and Posner cueing task, students will embark on a journey to uncover the intricacies of human cognition. Through interactive lectures and practical demonstrations, participants will gain insight into the theoretical underpinnings of these tasks and their relevance to understanding cognitive processes.
Moreover, students will not only learn about the tasks themselves but will also delve into the sophisticated experimental designs that underlie them. This exploration will equip students with the skills needed to design and implement their experiments, fostering a deeper appreciation for the complexities of experimental methodology. Practical sessions will provide hands-on experience in programming and conducting experiments, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios.
Furthermore, throughout the course, students will develop proficiency in analyzing and interpreting behavioral data. Through guided exercises and projects, they will learn how to extract meaningful insights from experimental results, honing their ability to draw conclusions about cognitive processes based on empirical evidence.
By the conclusion of the course, students will emerge with a rich understanding of classical cognitive research paradigms, equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to engage critically with Experimental Psychology and contribute meaningfully to the field.
