Syllabus
Obiettivi Formativi
This course aims at developing knowledge and understanding in several key areas of Experimental Psychology:
a)Advanced comprehension of theoretical models and the interpretation of experimental data with reference to memory and perception.
b) Profound understanding of the methods and experimental techniques employed within the field of experimental psychology
c) Ethical and deontological awareness necessary for conducting experimental procedures in the areas of cognition and neuroscience responsibly.
Furthermore, the course aims to cultivate the ability to apply this knowledge and understanding effectively by:
a) enhancing proficiency in executing and assessing applications within experimental contexts in the area of cognition
b) advancing students’ competencies in executing and evaluating applications within clinical environments in the area of experimental psychology
c) promoting of critical thinking, analytical prowess, and the synthesis of ideas in the area of experimental psychology
d) using ethical principles in practical applications and research endeavors in experimental psychology

Prerequisiti
The course prerequisites include a basic knowledge of general and cognitive psychology. Prospective students should be familiar with the fundamental concepts in these fields to effectively benefit from the course and learning materials.
Metodi didattici
This course will adopt a variety of learning methods, by blending traditional lectures with experiential learning activities and incorporating group discussionsand practical exercises. In particular, the last part of the course will be dedicated to analyses of scientific texts.
Verifica Apprendimento
The exam will be a written examination in which the student has to provide an analysis of a scientific text (article). The assessment will be on a scale of 30 points. The exam duration is 60 minutes. The exam will cover the material and topics explained and discussed during the lectures and will replicate the practical work conducted in the course. The students' grades will be determined by the accuracy and clarity of their text, as well as their ability to explain and critically apply the concepts taught throughout the course.
For students who will not complete the practical work during the course, the exam will be an oral assessment on a scale of 30 points that covers all the topics discussed during the course, as well as those proposed in the textbooks indicated in the syllabus. The evaluation will be based on the completeness of the answers provided by the students, their ability to argue and critically apply the knowledge acquired during the course to real or realistic cases.

Contenuti
The course is organized in 3 sections. Section 1 introduces the basic principles of experimental psychology and methodology in psychological and neuroscientific research. Section 2 focuses on the experimental and methodological aspects of the study of neurocognitive mechanisms of memory. Section 3 is dedicated to the analysis of scientific articles in order to critically assess strengths and flaws of the experimental designs and theories.
