Mechanisms of neurotoxicity. Applications to human biomonitoring

Abstract:
Interaction of chemicals with cerebral neurotransmitters, neurotransmitter receptors, and second messengers are often accompanied by similar changes in non-neural tissues and peripheral blood cells. Based on this notion, methods using easily accessible cells such as peripheral blood lymphocytes and platelets can be used as indirect biomarkers of chemically-induced neurotoxicity.
