Abstract:

Editorial on prognostic relevance of anemia in myelodysplastic syndromes. Primary myelodysplastic syndromes are acquired disorders of hematopoietic stem cells occurring in older persons and characterized by bone marrow failure and a substantial risk of progression into acute myeloid leukemia. Transfusion dependency has a negative impact on survival in these disorders.
