To fill the gap of data and information about Italian museum libraries, results of an exploratory research on a small sample of libraries are presented and illustrated. Nature and typologies of museum libraries are considered. Data about affiliation, offices, staff, accessions, collections, automation, cooperation and services to users are examined and valued. An essential outline of talian museum libraries is presented.
