Abstract:
The first floating CMOS bandgap voltage reference is reported.
The circuit is very suitable for precision mixed-mode systems,
using the differential approach, especially for the case of single supply
operation. An experimental prototype, realized in a 2-pm CMOS technology,
generates a continuous-time low-impedance voltage of 2.48 V 24 mV
before trimming. The temperature coefficient measured on 30 samples
ranges from -20 to +32 ppm/"C in the temperature range from 0 to
100°C. Thanks to the differential approach, a high-frequency power supply
rejection of -50 dB at 100 kHz was achieved, which is the best ever
reported. The active area of the chip is 1800 mil2 and the circuit dissipates
6 mW when operated from a single 5-V supply.
