At the end of the internship the student must be able 1) to make a correct diagnosis and plan an appropriate treatment for patients suffering from medical and surgical diseases, both acute and chronic; 2) to recognize a patient with an urgent clinical picture and to plan the most appropriate diagnostic pathway and treatment; 3) to manage the relationship between doctor and patient and doctor and relatives, taking particular attention to gender issues and the cultural contexts.
Course Prerequisites
Prerequisites for attending the internships of the 6th year of the Harvey course are the enrollment in the 6th year and an attendance completed of the internships foreseen for the 3rd, 4th and 5th year of the course.
Teaching Methods
The internship is carried out under the supervision of a tutor teacher; the student will be asked to participate in the daily activities of the inpatient department (collection of personal and family medical history, collection of physical examination) in support or in guided collaboration. He will be involved in the discussion of clinical cases and in particular in the formulation of the differential diagnosis, through correct use of laboratory and instrumental investigations, and the definition of the most appropriated treatment.
Assessment Methods
At the end of the internship, each teacher/tutor will verify the achievement of the minimum objectives with a test, such as the discussion of a clinical case, a multiple choice test, a bedside test, etc.
Texts
There are no specific reference textbooks for the professional internships other than all those used in the previous years of the Harvey course.
Contents
The internship planned at the 6th year of the Harvey course is carried out mainly but not exclusively at the departments of Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesia and Intensive Care, Emergency Room, Obstetrics and Gynecology and contributes to the acquisition of 8 CFU. The CFU obtained by attending the scheduled internships of the 6th year can be used as CFU for the Tirocinio Pratico Valutativo (TVP), provided that all the exams planned in the first four years of the Harvey course have been passed. It is required the recording of daily attendance by the teacher/tutor.
