At the end of the TPV of medical area, the student must be able to make a correct diagnosis and plan an appropriate treatment for patients suffering from medical diseases, both acute and chronic, and to recognize a patient with an urgent clinical picture and to plan the most appropriate diagnostic pathway and treatment. The student should be able to manage the relationship between doctor and patient and doctor and relatives, taking particular attention to gender issues and the cultural contexts.
Course Prerequisites
To attend the Tirocinio Pratico Valutativo (TPV) in the medical area, the student must have passed all the exams required up to the fourth year of the course and be enrolled in the V year
Teaching Methods
The TPV of medical area is carried out under the supervision of a tutor teacher; the student will be asked to participate in the daily activities of the inpatient department (collection of personal and family medical history, physical examination) in support or in guided collaboration for a total of 100 hours. He will be involved in the discussion of clinical cases and in particular in the formulation of the differential diagnosis, through correct use of laboratory and instrumental investigations, and the definition of the most appropriated treatment.
Assessment Methods
At the end of the internship, each teacher/tutor will verify the achievement of the minimum objectives with a test, such as the discussion of a clinical case, a multiple choice test, a bedside test, etc. The student will be provided with a TPV booklet, useful for recording the activities carried out, the tutors' evaluations and their signatures.
Texts
There are no specific reference textbooks for the TPV of internal area other than all those used in the previous years of the Harvey course.
Contents
The TPV in the medical area is carried out in different medical areas (internal medicine, geriatrics, gastroenterology, cardiology, respiratory dept., dermatology, emergency room, etc...). Then, the contents of the practical activity will be specific for the different types of departments to which the student will be assigned.
