Course Objectives
The course aims to make the student acquainted with the knowledge of criminal trial protocol, as derived from the code of criminal procedure (and the related implementing provisions), within the framework of the principles enshrined in the Constitution and in the international human rights Charters concerning penal justice.Through the in-depth study of practical cases in the classroom, the aim is to stimulate the students’ critical ability and bring them closer to a conscious use of the instruments of criminal procedural law.
Course Prerequisites
Course attendance requirements are a pass in both the Criminal Law exam and Part 1 Criminal Procedure oral exam. The contents of Criminal Law (with regard, in particular, to the constituent elements of the crime and the type of sanctions) and of Criminal Procedure 1st part (with regard to both the static and dynamic parts of the matter) are a prerequisite to the approach to the relevant topics of this course.
Teaching Methods
The teaching makes use of lectures and in-depth seminars.
During the lessons, the analysis of the legislation will alternate with practical case studies in order to encourage the students’ involvement and active participation.
The teacher's lessons will be supplemented by in-depth seminars conducted by legal practitioners (magistrates, lawyers).
Attendance at lectures and seminars is strongly recommended.

Assessment Methods
Verification of learning takes place through an oral examination, in which both the basic knowledge of law and the mastery and application of the principles and the most important institutes of criminal procedural law are emphasized. For students interested, an optional written test is scheduled with closed questions (multiple choices) and open questions on the part of the program up to that point in the lesson. Exceeding the written test involves the exclusion of the subjects on which the written test was focused, from the scope of the oral test program. In this case, the final vote is a weighted average of the written test score and of the oral test.
