In this part of the course (Module 2 – Analytical Chemistry), students will acquire practical skills concerning the basic instrumental analytical chemistry techniques. Students will be able to use correctly the basic instruments of an analytical chemistry lab, to properly choose and apply the basic (classical or instrumental) analytical methods, to pre-treat real samples before analysis, and to apply the statistical data treatment.
Course Prerequisites
Frequency to the course "Analytical Chemistry and Lab" is mandatory. In particular, the knowledge of the following topics (previously treated in "Analytical Chemistry and Lab" and "Analytical Chemistry 2") is required: basis of data treatment, molecular spectroscopy UV-vis, potentiometry (ion selective electrode, i.e. glass electrode), solvent extraction, ion-exchange cromatography.
Teaching Methods
The course includes lectures and practical lab exercises. For the laboratory, the frequency to at least the 75% of the total hours provided, is mandatory.
Assessment Methods
The teaching methodology consists of guided practical lab exercises, performed in person by the student. For each experiment, the opportune data treatment and a detailed report have to be performed. The exam consists in the evaluation of the laboratory activities that will be discussed in a oral test.

More information
The course promotes the development of teaching approaches and technologies that encourage active learning and a more participatory role of students, crucial to sharpening skills and the ability to work in a group. Moreover, the teaching methodology will be aimed at supporting the inclusion of students with training deficiencies or who, for motivated reasons, have difficulty attending the activities in person.
