OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY - Student objectives: 1) Be able to describe the pathophysiology of the sinonasal district, pharynx, larynx, acute inflammations of these anatomical structures: the sinonasal district acute and chronic inflammations (e.g. rhinitis, sinusitis, fungal sinonasal infections, nasal poliposis), the pharynx (e.g. pharyngitis and tonsillitis), the larynx (e.g. laryngitis in adults and children). 2) Be able to describe and recognize clinically suspicious head and neck lesions (tumors of the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, sinonasal district) and their local - regional metastases. Become familiar with the principles of their management (therapy). 3) Be able to describe the pathophysiology, clinical aspects and treatment principles of ENT emergencies: epistaxis, dyspnea, bleeding. 4) Develop an understanding of the fundamental concepts and features of the diagnostic procedures and be able to demonstrate competence in the interpretation of their results 5) Develop an understanding of the oral cavity pathology: anatomy, physiology, clinical aspects of the oral cavity pathologies.

Assessment Methods
The course is divided into four different units: Otorhinolaryngology; Special odontostomatological surgery; Maxillo-facial surgery; Plastic surgery. The student must undertake an oral exam for each of the three units’ subject. The exam is an oral test based on the topics reported in the program, for whose studying both lectures and text books must be referred to. The oral examination must consider a complete presentation of a topic or a clinical case, organized in a logical order, from general to particular, based on solid concepts, speaking a grammatically and syntactically correct Italian and a technically adeguate language. The final grade is obtained through the arithmetic mean of the three oral tests, rounding up or down.
