Syllabus

Course Objectives

Provide an information base on the distribution of plants on the Planet in relation to environmental and evolutionary factors, as well as on environmental sustainability in both natural and agricultural environment (Agenda 2030, Goal 15 Life on Earth).
Learn techniques for detection and monitoring of flora and plant communities.

Course Prerequisites

Have a basic knowledge in systematic botany and ecology

Assessment Methods

Examination will consist of a written test, with in itinere tests and an oral test.
The written exam is compulsory for all students and provides 5 open questions of up to 15 lines each; Each question is awarded a 4-point score for a total of 30/30.
The oral test is optional to improve the score obtained in the written test; The oral test, in the form of an interview, will cover the subjects covered in the written test and the entire course program.
Grades of all students (including those who have directly accepted the written test grade without taking the oral exam) will be recorded on the closing date of the final oral exam.

Contents

The course covers the following topics:
-Corology: Chorological types, chorological spectra, exotic and native species, floristic inventories, floristic divisions of Earth.
-Ecological factors that most influence the distribution of plants.
-biological forms and biological spectra.
-Performance Indicators and plant ecological indices.
- Italian vegetation.
-Structure of plant communities: vertical structure, horizontal structure, temporal ordering.
-Classification of Vegetation: physiognomic-structural, by dominant species, by ecological, dynamic, phytosociological use.
-Introduction to phytosociology.
-Cartography of vegetation.
-What are environmental sustainability and biodiversity protection: natural environment and agricultural environment (Agenda 2030, Goal 15 Life on Earth)
The course is complemented by field trips.
