Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course intends to provide elements of accident scenarios knowledge that could arise at plants at risk of a major accident, implementation techniques of risk analysis conducted in order to: identify possible anomalous events of an activity , estimate the frequency and probability of occurrence, the extension and severity of the consequences according to the type of exposure, the distance from the source and the mitigation and protection measures adopted. Elements of knowledge of current legislation are provided with particular reference to the investigative and inspection activities carried out by the competent authorities and administrations. At the end of the course the student must be able to apply the criteria for identifying possible initiating events, for identifying possible accident scenarios, for identifying areas of damage.

Course Prerequisites

Good knowledge of the concepts of danger, risk, damage, prevention measures and protection measures.

Teaching Methods

Frontal lessons. Power Point presentations are used to carry out the frontal lessons, made available to students in the section dedicated to teaching on the KIRO moodle platform.

Assessment Methods

Learning is verified through a written exam consisting of various types of questions:
True/false questions, to test the student's ability to answer specific questions relating to the structures and processes covered during the lessons.
Questions that ask you to indicate the meaning or define specific terms, aimed at verifying your understanding of the terminology used during lessons.
Questions that require a brief description of a process aimed at verifying understanding of theoretical concepts.
The evaluation criteria will take into account the degree of knowledge of the subject, the clarity of the exposition, the language skills, the use of scientific terminology and the ability to establish logical connections between the topics.
