The course aims to provide basic information and skills on the production and use of monoclonal antibodies for therapeutic purposes, on how to identify a possible target and the appropriate considerations for a pre-evaluation of efficacy. In the last part of the course, conjugated antibodies and anti-tumor immunotherapy will be covered, including CAR-T cells.
Course Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of microbiology, molecular biology and human physiology is required.
Teaching Methods
Lectures, youtube tutorials. Practical exercises are not provided.
Assessment Methods
A final exam at the end of the course. Students not familiar with Italian language can ask for an oral test.

Basic elements of the functioning of the immune and lymphatic system, mechanisms of the antibody response, mechanism of action of an antibody. Methodology of production of a monoclonal antibody. Evolution of technologies from the production of antibodies murine origin to the production of human antibodies. Examples of therapeutic monocolonal antibodies. Conjugated antibodies and related issues, Anti-tumor immunotherapy, CAR-T cells. Targets, clinical efficacy, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic considerations.
