Syllabus

Course Objectives

To familiarize with the pharmacological language and to understand the basic knowledge of pharmakinetics and pharmacodynamics. Special focus is devoted to understand the molecular mechanisms of the cellular responses to drugs and small molecules. To understand the scientific and technological process that has conducted to the discovery and development of the drugs currently in use and that will allow in the future the identification of new effective and safe drugs. To acquire knowledge on the research and development process of chemical drugs, phytotherapic drugs, biological and biotechnological drugs and drugs for rare diseases. To understand the scenario in which drugs will be discovered and developed in the coming years.

Course Prerequisites

The course represents a basic pharmacological training for students in Biotechnoloy. No particular requirements are necessary.

Teaching Methods

Lessons will be combined with seminars on specific topics of relevance for the course.

Assessment Methods

Oral examination aiming to evaluate the pharmacological skills acquired in relation to the contents of the
course. The final mark will focus on the level of understanding and of oral exposure of the topics
