Overview

Date/time interval

Primo Semestre (22/09/2025 - 16/01/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

The educational objective of the course is to give the theoretical and practical bases for quantitative analysis, through classical volumetric analysis. The students learn how to treat the unknown sample, how to prepare the appropriate standard, how to identify the end point, how to make the stoichiometric count, how to repeat the analysis in order to express the results adequately.
The students learn how to present the data collected in the form of a final report.

Course Prerequisites

Knowledge of the topics covered in the following courses: Stoichiometry and Lab of Chemistry, (mandatory); General and Inorganic Chemistry; Mathematics.

Teaching Methods

The course includes lectures and compulsory laboratory practice.

Assessment Methods

Evaluation of the results obtained in the analysis of unknown samples and laboratory reports.
Oral exam, scheduled only if the correction of the laboratory reports has not given a satisfactory result.

Texts

D.A. Skoog, D.M. West, “Fondamenti di Chimica Analitica”, Napoli, EdiSES, 2015; ISBN 9788879598651

Contents

The role of the chemical reactions involved in each analytical procedure (acid-base, complexometric, redox and precipitation titrations) will be illustrated.
The students learn how to construct titration curves.
The processing of univariate data will be addressed, to be able to compare the data with each other and express them correctly.
In the laboratory, individual tests will be set up, with increasing complexity by analyzing unknown samples. The data is collected, the results are compared with the real values, and the final report is prepared.

Course Language

Italian

More information

The final grade is unique, taking into account both the evaluation of the written test, the oral exam (mod. 1) and the laboratory grade (mod. 2).
