Learning objectives The Work Psychology course aims to provide students with a basic knowledge on work organizations, trough the main steps of historical development of this branch of knowledge. A more specific object is to provide relevant concept about the basic psychological constructs which influence the good adaptation to the job, high productivity and individual well-being. Further objective is to introduce an overview about some relevant applicative issues regarding the actual working context. Expected learning outcomes At the end of the course students will have specific knowledge about: a) The main individual aspect which influence well-being and productivity (e.g. motivation) b) Main occupational outcomes in terms of both well-being (e.g.satisfaction) and malaise (e.g. psycho-social risks and counterproductive behaviors) c) Methodological aspects of applied research d) Work security, with specific focus on the role of human factor in accidents and injuries.
Course Prerequisites
No specific prerequisites are needed in order to attend this course and to undergo the final test.
Teaching Methods
The course takes place through in-person lessons. For each CFU (25 hours) is expected - 4 hours of teaching in DE delivery mode, i.e frontal teaching (content presentation via slides and scientific papers) - 2 hours of interactive teaching - DI (seminars by professionals) - 19 hours of self-study on the texts of the course bibliography and on the slides provided Meetings with the tutor for monitoring and self-evaluation of the knowledge acquired are scheduled.
Assessment Methods
The assessment consists in a written examination with 3 open-ended questions (20 lines for each answers). In order to pass the test, it is needed to answer to all the questions. The exam will be based on the text and the knowledge of the contents of the slides uploaded to the KIRO portal is also expected.
*It is better to buy the book as soon as possible (in a library or on the editor website) because of possible difficulties.
Contents
The course will focus on: - development of the discipline - research methods in work psychology - workplace safety - individual differences in the workplace - work motivation - work satisfaction - occupational well-being - counterproductive behaviors in the workplace. The contents and materials of the course are present and downloadable from the KIRO platform. Students will be able to find the main slides used for teaching on the KIRO platform, as well as the main video-recorded contents of similar lessons from previous years. The course contents will be often treated from an applicative perspective, providing practical cases and examples. The contents of the course will be addressed taking into consideration the ethical-deontological principles which, based on the specific theme of organizational context, will be described in detail by the teacher, both from a theoretical point of view and with a direct connection to practical activity (e.g. through the discussion of example cases).
