The main objective of the course of Pharmacology is to provide basic knowledge on drugs, including therapeutic and toxic effects, with special attention to drugs acting on cardiovascular system.
Course Prerequisites
Good knowledge of human Anatomy and human Physiology will allow the student to understand the elements that are at the basis of the function of organs and apparatus and hence of the drugs’ actions.

Assessment Methods
The final text consists in an oral examination in which the student will be asked to discuss some topics from the program. During the interview, questions will verify the degree of in-depth knowledge of the proposed topics and the use of the specific technical language.

The teaching material provided on the institutional platform and the notes taken during classes are essential for the preparation of the exam. Contents
Basic knowledge about pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, routes of drug administration and mechanisms of drug action. Basic knowledge about cardiovascular pharmacology: antianginals; antihypertensives; cardioactive glycosides and other positive inotropic drugs; antiarrhythmics; diuretics. Basic knowledge about drugs used for clot disorders: antiplatelet drugs, heparines, oral anticoagulants. Basic knowledge about drugs used in emergencies and anaesthesia.
