The course aims to provide adequate knowledge of main diagnostic and interventional techniques used in coronary and structural cardiac intervention.
Teaching Methods
The course is based on traditional lectures, supported by PowerPoint images. These lessons will be accompanied by interactive teaching concerning description and analysis of diagnostic and interventional angiographic pictures. During the course, some materials used in Cath Lab will be shown. For further clarification or insights, teacher is available at Cath Lab (Emodinamica - DEA Policlinico San Matteo, Pavia).
Assessment Methods
The examination can be both oral and written, relating to the topics covered in the lessons and based on the material provided by the teacher.
Texts
Didactic material is provided by teacher at the end of the course.
Contents
Coronary anatomy and pathophysiology; left heart catheterization; diagnostic and interventional coronary angiography (angiographic projections, contrast agents, arterial access, materials, percutaneous revascularization techniques); angiography rooms/cardiac catheterization labs and principles of radioprotection, hybrid cardiovascular operating room; Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP); intravascular imaging modalities, invasive functional testing. All topics will be theoretically covered in class and practically observed during internship in Cardiac Catheterization Lab.
