Syllabus

Course Objectives

To provide in-depth knowledge of the fundamental concepts of risk, hazard, and prevention within the scope of workplace safety.

To deepen understanding of the main tools and methodologies for identifying, assessing, and managing risks in the workplace.

To foster the development of practical skills for implementing risk prevention and management plans through real-life examples and simulations.

To promote a safety culture based on the anticipation and proactive management of hazards.

To conduct effective analysis of workplace injuries (or accidents)

Course Prerequisites

Familiarity with the main safety regulations, such as Legislative Decree 81/2008 and subsequent amendments (smi).

Basic knowledge related to risk prevention, hazard assessment, and protective measures.

Teaching Methods

Lectures with support from slides and multimedia materials

Group work and discussion of real-life case studies

Assessment Methods

The evaluation criteria will take into account the degree of subject matter knowledge, the clarity of presentation, the proper use of language, the use of scientific terminology, and the ability to establish logical connections between topics.

Module 1 – Introduction to Workplace Safety with reference to the relevant legislation, designated roles, and responsibilities.

Module 2 – Risk Identification and Classification, defining risk, hazard, and injury, types of risk, and analysis of work environments.

Module 3 – Prevention and Protection Techniques, covering collective and individual prevention measures.

Module 4 – Risk Analysis and Management Tools, covering risk assessment methodology, drafting the risk assessment document (DVR/Risk Assessment Document), and root cause analysis techniques for an injury.

Module 5 – Case Studies and Practical Applications, including the analysis of injury cases and safety violations, practical exercises with risk assessment simulations, and in-class role-playing.

Mid-course assessment/evaluation (interim check) during the course (multiple-choice quiz, open-ended questions and classroom discussion/review, practical exercises).

Final assessment/evaluation (final check) with a practical test (analysis of a simulated case study involving the drafting of a risk assessment form and an action plan).
