At the end of the course, the student is familiar with the main theoretical lenses that frame the teaching and learning processes of mathematics. Moreover, the student, starting from these theories, is able to design teaching activities that cover the different nuclei of the national indications, also managing the processes of assessment, support for difficulties and enhancement of students' cognitive styles.
Course Prerequisites
Secondary school mathematics content knowledge. The contents of the "Complementi di Matematica" course.
Teaching Methods
The course will employ various teaching methodologies: - Lectures - General discussions - Group work for laboratory activities - Use of the INVALSI GESTINV database
Assessment Methods
Oral test. The test consists of a discussion designed to ascertain the knowledge of the topics covered in the course. This test is aimed at verifying the degree of understanding of the theoretical topics carried out in class, clarity of exposition but also the ability to apply these notions in concrete situations. For this reason, the student will be required to have a substantial understanding of all the theory presented, which can be verified both through questions on specific topics and through the proposal of problems, analysis of protocols, and didactic design concerning the course topics; the student will have recourse to the theoretical and methodological tools introduced during the lectures. The questions will be articulated on variable difficulty so as to establish the degree of depth in the acquisition of such skills. The formulation of the mark will be obtained by considering the overall breadth and depth of learning, as well as the clarity of the exposition and the skills demonstrated in dealing with the different situations concerning the teaching-learning of mathematics proposed during the oral test.
Texts
The professor will provide supplementary study materials to complement the lectures: PowerPoint presentations, activity worksheets, scientific articles, book chapters, and video materials.
Contents
The course covers the following topics: - Constructivism: Images, models, misconceptions and obstacles - Duval's semio-cognitive approach - Vygotsky's approach to learning: - The Theory of Semiotic Mediation. - The Theory of Objectification - Intuitions and argumentation - Conceptual fields and fields of experience - Exercises and problems The course topics will be dealt with in relation to the core topics of the national indications for lower secondary school.
