Three main educational objectives of the course are:
(a) to develop knowledge of the methods and problems of stylistic criticism;
(b) to deepen the skills of stylistic analysis when faced with texts of different nature (in verse and prose);
(c) refine skills in identifying and interpreting the metrical structures and formal choices of texts in the Italian poetic tradition.
Course Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of Italian metrics.
Teaching Methods
Lectures and seminar activities.
During the seminar activities - which will be concentrated in the second part of the course - students will present their own in-depth research work orally in the classroom, which they will then develop in written form in the examination paper.
Assessment Methods
The exam consists of an ORAL INTERVIEW and the writing of a PAPER, the topic of which will be agreed upon with the professor.
The ORAL INTERVIEW is designed to assess the educational content, skills, and critical thinking abilities acquired by the student. With this in mind, the interview will be structured in two parts and will include: 1) discussion of the paper; 2) questions on the exam program, readings, and selected texts.
The PAPER will be a short essay of stylistic analysis on a chosen text and must be sent by email to the teacher at least one week before the oral exam. Precise instructions for the paper will be provided in class and made available on Kiro.
