The course deals with some of the main topics of basic IT studies, and also aims to provide useful skills in data processing and the knowledge of the essential rules and best practices for the healthcare professional who works with IT tools and uses Social Media.

For the exam: The reference book can be found online, on the University teaching Learning Management System (Kiro), slot reserved to the course, to which all students can access. Lecture notes and other materials given by the Lecturer during the course.
Contents
Introduction to information technology. Numbering systems: the binary system. Bits and bytes. The origins of computer science: the Turing and von Neumann machines. Hardware: central processing unit, storage devices, I/O devices. Operating system. Software. Digital images, pixel, fonts and video card. File compression. Internet: structure, protocols (TCP / IP), browser, advanced use of search engines, email, cloud computing. DESI Index IT security principles. E-Collaboration principles The course is completed by references to e-health and personal data protection legislation (European Regulation 2016/679) and by the analysis of case studies related to the good practices for the health professional during the online navigation: legal and deontological responsibilities are stressed.
