This course is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of the mechanisms through which countries and firms innovate and how technological progress occurs. We will explore how these changes influence economic growth and sustainable development. The course offers a variety of approaches in the fields of neoclassical economics, neo-Schumpeterian economics of innovation, development economics, and economic geography. Theoretical knowledge will be complemented by data analysis sessions and discussions on contemporary economic and social issues. During the course, students will have the opportunity to interact not only with the main instructor but also with experts in the field. Learning Outcomes - Provide participants with a solid theoretical and practical foundation in various approaches to innovation. - Analyze how economic theories apply to technological change and development. - Cultivate critical analysis skills through real-world data and case study discussions. Upon completion of the course, students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to interpret and address the challenges of innovation and development, ready to contribute to economic and social progress in their future careers.
Course Prerequisites
The course is part of the students' economic education and therefore, a basic knowledge of economics is recommended.
Teaching Methods
The teaching method includes lectures, data/policy workshops, student-led debates, student presentations, and guest seminars.
Assessment Methods
The exam is written and divided into two parts: the first consists of multiple-choice questions, and the second consists of open-ended questions. Attending students who participate in the activities offered during the course will take a reduced exam.
