The elective course is designed to provide an overview of the main analytical techniques used in drug discovery.
Course Prerequisites
The student should know basic notions of chromatography, mass spectrometry and instrumental analytical methods.
Teaching Methods
Classes will be delivered via the Zoom platform. The theoretical discussion will be supported by reading scientific articles, which will be analyzed as case studies. Teaching will include lectures delivered through PowerPoint presentations. All the teaching material will be available on the Kiro platform. For students with specific needs who are unable to attend in-person classes and who have applied for Inclusive Teaching Methods, appropriate teaching material will be available for effective independent study. Upon request, self-learning can be supported by tutoring or supplementary teaching activities, and dedicated meetings, including online ones, with flexible schedules depending on needs.
Assessment Methods
The acquisition of training credits is linked to passing the written exam. The exam is designed to assess the knowledge and skills acquired in relation to the course content. During the lectures, examples of exam questions will be presented.
Texts
Students will be provided with literature papers as case studies.
Contents
Methods for hit identification, hit verification, library characteristics, affinity screening methodologies, biochromatography, isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), surface plasmon resonance (SPR), affinity methods coupled to mass spectrometry (AS-MS).
