Syllabus

Course Objectives

Know, understand and evaluate the methodological risks (i.e. risk of bias) associated with the main quantitative research designs: randomized controlled experimental studies (RCTs) and observational intervention studies.
Know and use risk of bias assessment tools, such as: ROB-2, ROBINS-1, ROBIS (the latter for systematic reviews)
Know, understand and evaluate the measurement properties (for example validity and reliability) of measurement instruments
Use the COSMIN checklist for evaluation of measurement properties. Know, understand and evaluate hybrid desing for implementation study.

Course Prerequisites

The student must have basic knowledge of research methodology, acquired through teaching in the first semester of "preliminary sciences"

Assessment Methods

Individual written test with cross tests in accordance with the main learning outcome of the course, namely: promoting new knowledge about risk assessment by type of study design.

During the course, some in-depth articles/use manuals will require a minimum knowledge of the English language on the part of the student.
For the practical exercises of the course, the use of Microsoft Excel and Access (Office package) is required.
