The aim of the course is to provide students with the basic interpretative tools necessary to understand chemistry concepts that are dealt with in the following modules and thus to acquire the knowledge of chemistry that is indispensable for forming a basic body of scientific knowledge to which the specificities of the Degree Course can be added
Course Prerequisites
The course is part of the students' basic training. To follow the course, the student must have a basic knowledge of chemistry from the high school science syllabus, in particular licei. At the beginning of the course, basic knowledge of chemistry will be tested by means of a test administered on the Kirotesting platform. If the student does not achieve a score of 75% of the total, he/she must attend the OFA remedial course. At the end of the remedial course, attainment of basic knowledge will be verified by means of a test.
Teaching Methods
Lectures including chemical calculation and stoichiometry exercises are conducted.
Assessment Methods
Written final examination, with problems of stichiometry and multiple choche and open ended questions.
Texts
The slides projected during the course in PDF format and all material used during the lectures are made available and shared via KIRO. Any general and inorganic chemistry text can be useful for exam preparation. In addition to the shared material, the student can expand on the topics covered by referring to: L. Palmisano, G. Marcì, A. Costantini, G. Luciani, M. Schiavello. Elements of Chemistry, 2nd Edition , Edises, 2020

With reference to the guidelines for teaching methods (a.y. 2025/2026), for students enrolled in the course who certify that they are in one of the conditions listed in Appendix A, up to 2 hours of tuition per week, also online, will be arranged. The tution must be arranged by e-mail at least one week in advance. The examination procedures will remain unchanged. OFA (Basic knowledge): The course is part of the students' basic education.
