The course aims to give the basic notions for the recognition (and nomenclature) of the structure of organic molecules.
Course Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites
Teaching Methods
The course is organized in frontal lessons.
Assessment Methods
Oral exam with eight questions.
Texts
Any organic chemistry textbook can be useful for preparing for the exam.
Contents
The course aims to teach students to recognise their characteristic functional groups within the various organic molecules (e.g. carbonyl, amino, ester groups, etc.). The basic notions for the nomenclature of organic compounds will also be provided. Other fundamental concepts such as aromaticity, stereoisomerism (chiral centers, enantio- and diastereoisomerism) and the possible applications and uses of the compounds considered will be discussed in a non-exhaustive way.
