Course content and objectives: The course aims to • develop essential communication skills in order to communicate successfully in a professional capacity ( English language and communication skills ) • introduce students to analysis of scientific text in its various forms • introduce students to the basics of scientific English over a range of genres • provide the students with resources for independent study The course aims to achieve a B2 level.
Course Prerequisites
Course requirements: Prior to starting the course students will sit an entrance test in English to assess linguistic ability and subsequently establish a similar level among all students.

Assessment Methods
Final assesment: Oral interview in English. The final assessment of students will take into account both knowledge of course content and linguistic ability. Students must be able to summarize and comment the texts studied during the course.

Contents
Programme: The course introduces students to the specific vocabulary of 'occupational health and safety ', analysis and assessment of risks in the workplace and in everyday situations, use and function of language, comprehension of components of style and register present in various texts regarding prevention. The course covers the main stages of communication. Students will acquire essential and specialist terminology in relation to specific themes of 'occupational health and safety ' such as; hazards, risks, preventative measures and environmental hazards.
