Syllabus

Course Objectives

1) To deepen the concept of evidence-based practice, with a focus on the nursing profession.
2) Getting to know the main databases and deepening the steps for a literature review.
3) Identification of bibliographic search strategies aimed at source retrieval.

Course Prerequisites

In order to actively attend the course it is necessary to have attended the 1 year applied nursing research course.

Teaching Methods

- Frontal lessons.
- Classroom simulations.
- Exercises
- Guided analysis and discussion.

Assessment Methods

The formative assessment is continuous and final and develops in the manner described below:

a written test in the form of a test, consisting of 15 questions with multiple choice questions, of which only one answer is correct. Students with learning disabilities certified by the Unipv SAIDS service will be entitled to extra time and compensatory measures.

Lecture notes allow a better understanding and contextualisation of the topic.

EBP concept:

- Historical background on the birth of EBP
- Hierarchy of sources
- Identification of primary and secondary literature
- Deontological and legal aspects of EBP

Steps for conducting a literature review Part 1:

- Identification of the main databases
- Knowledge of the difference in types of research questions
- Structuring and practising foreground questions
- Defining the research question

Steps for conducting a literature review Part 2:

- Choice of Boolean operators
- Construction of the search string
- Literature analysis
- Recognition of the methodology for conducting a literature review
