Syllabus

Course Objectives

The treatment of the various aspects of cancer and in particular of the multidisciplinary approach to Medical Oncology is carried out with simplicity criteria while respecting the needs of continuous evolution also in its diagnostic and therapeutic aspects.
The course of Oncology aims to provide the student with the essential notions to understand:
the impact of this disease on the population and on the health system,
- the basic notions of the diagnostic and therapeutic workup of the most frequent cancers.
- the basic principles of antineoplastic treatments, palliative measures and their side effects.
- the importance of multidisciplinarity in Oncology, also from the point of view of a hospital-territory path, and the concept of simultaneous care
- the role of the research nurse.

Course Prerequisites

Understanding the topics covered in the Oncology module requires the student to have knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, general biology / pathology They must also possess the fundamentals of internal medicine and general concepts of epidemiology and pharmacology

- Epidemiology, risk factors and primary and secondary prevention; natural history of cancer,
- Diagnostic and therapeutic approach to the cancer patient and main acute and late side effects of medical treatments,
- multidisciplinary approach to the cancer patient,
- hospital-territory network concept,
- supportive care, including nutrition and management of pain,
-clinical studies in Oncology
