abstract:
The paper discusses with the contribution the John Locke gave to the study of language and linguistics. The doctrine of innate principles and ideas is put against the claim that the human mind is is a black tablet with no innate knowledge. In his discussion of language, Locke states that words stands for ideas and presents an ideational account od meaning in the tradition of Aristotle, but he differs in seeing our ideas as necessarily private and individual.
