Experimental models of heart failure.

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2004
abstract:
To properly assess mechanisms of heart failure a test new effective interventions adequate experimental models are needed. Specifically, as far as heart failure concerns the use of chronic preparation is fundamental. Also mechanisms of HF inductions must be physiologically sound. The most used model is the tachycardia induced left ventricular disfunction. This model provides meaningful data but suffer critical limitations among which the lack of stability over time is the most relevant. We have developed a model of HF combining the technique of microsphere embolization and an anterior MI created by coronary artery ligation. By these combined techniques we obtained a model in which events are reproducible and stable over time.
