abstract:
OBJECTIVES. To critically analyze the possible correlations among tongue thrust (a very common dysfunction in general population) and malocclusions and postural alterations. MATERIALS AND METHODS. In order to highlight any correlations between alterations in the normal swallowing pattern and postural and occlusal changes, a depth examination of the most recent scientific literature was conducted. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS. Despite the limited scientific evidence, and still critically considering the existing interconnections, mutual interactions among tongue thrust and malocclusions, breathing and posture are discussed.
