Resource Optimization in Multiradio Multichannel Wireless Mesh Networks

Chapter
Publication Date:
2013
abstract:
The wireless mesh networks (WMNs) comprise a mix of fixed and mobile nodes interconnected via wireless links to form a multihop ad hoc network (MANET). This chapter presents the main optimization models that have been considered for the efficient management of TDMA-based WMNs. It focuses on the physical interference model based on the signal-to-interference- and-noise ratio. The chapter discusses the link activation problem, which aims at maximizing the number of parallel transmissions under the interference constraints. The problem of optimal link scheduling is also discussed. The chapter shows how power control and rate adaptation can be taken into account. It introduces routing and discusses how it can be jointly optimized with scheduling. The chapter shows how to deal with channel assignment and directional antennas. Finally, it discusses the cooperative relaying and shows how resource optimization models can be generalized to include this transmission technique.
