The book presents many turning points of science and culture which took place at the University of Pavia since its foundation in 1361. The aim is not only to illustrate the history of the various central contributions selected but to show how they contributed in many cases to the shaping of the modern and present-day periods. Among others, the book highlights the contributions and cultural legacy of Girolamo Cardano, Gaspare Aselli, Alessandro Volta, Lazzaro Spallanzani, Antonio Scarpa, Bartolomeo Panizza, Camillo Golgi, Eugenio Beltrami, Cesare Beccaria, Giandomenico Romagnosi, Ugo Foscolo and Vincenzo Monti
