It has become progressively evident that increases in sympathetic activity favour the onset of malignant cardiac arrhythmias, particularly when acting in a
diseased myocardium In this chapter two conditions that involve in a causal relationship the sympathetic
nervous system and'life-threatening arrhythmias will be examined: acute myocardial ischaemia and the idiopathic long Q-T syndrome.
