Spectral analysis of and definition of suitable bandwidth for EOG recording of human horizontal saccades.

Academic Article
Publication Date:
1992
abstract:
Horizontal saccadic eye movements were measured in 6 healthy subjects by bitemporal DC electro-oculography (EOG). Eye position was A/D converted, and eye velocity and its energy spectrum were computed for each saccde. Most of saccde energy was contained in the first lobe of the spectrum, and, outside this lobe, the saccade spectrum was comparable to the noise one.Conventional bandwidths of the saccade spectrum were defined according to different critaria. Regardless of the criterion, bandwidth decreased for increasing amplitude of the saccade. Effects of either saccade direction or eccenticity on bandwidth were not found. These results help in objectively defining EOG frequency limits that should be met by EOG measurement and processing procedures.
