Abstract:
The paper deals with Speech Act Theory from the perspective of Cognitive Linguistics. It puts forward a refined theoretical model, called the "Cost-Benefit Cognitive Model", which shows how illocutionary meaning is conveyed on the basis of high-level situational models constructed through the application of the high-level metonymy specific for generic to multiple low-level situational models.
