Obiettivi Formativi
At the successful conclusion of this module, you should be able to demonstrate the following learning module level outcomes (LO): LO.1 Knowledge & Understanding: You will be able to demonstrate critical knowledge of foundational concepts in public health ethics (e.g. utilitarianism) and an understanding of the ethical tensions between individual autonomy, public interest, justice, and solidarity in population health. LO.2. Ability to Apply Knowledge and Understanding: You will be able to apply ethical frameworks to assess real-world public health dilemmas (e.g. vaccination mandates, quarantine, resource allocation) LO.3: Autonomy of Judgement: You will be able to form ethical judgements about contested public health interventions and justify recommendations in the context of uncertainty LO.4. Communication Skills: You will be able to communicate ethical arguments clearly and concisely in a structured written format. LO.5. Learning Skills: You will be able to demonstrate intellectual autonomy by identifying, researching, and reflecting on ethical issues within the realm of public health interventions

Metodi didattici
Teaching methods include lectures, discussion and guided independent study. Lectures present key concepts (supports LO.1, LO.2), interactive discussion of real-world public health case studies (supports LO.2-3), guided readings and the e-learning platform (supports LO.5). Teaching will include guidance to help you prepare for the exam (supports LO.4) and throughout you will be presented with references to further readings and other materials to support your development (supports LO.5).

Contenuti
Public health ethics, the subject of this module, concerns the study of the moral dimensions of health relating to populations, epidemiology, disease prevention, health promotion, justice, and equality and is commonly concerned with the tensions between individual autonomy and communitarianism and/or utilitarianism. This module, through and interdisciplinary approach, will introduce you to key ethical theories (such as agent-centred, deontological and utilitarian), concepts (such as social justice and equity) and case studies in this area.
