Obiettivi Formativi
At the successful conclusion of this integrated course, you should be able to demonstrate the following module learning outcomes (LOs):
Knowledge and Understanding
• LO1. Describe the physical principles, tissue representation, indications, limitations and safety considerations of the principal diagnostic imaging modalities, including conventional radiography, computed tomography (CT), ultrasound (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Applying Knowledge and Understanding
• LO2. Apply knowledge of diagnostic imaging to identify the most appropriate imaging modality for common clinical scenarios and recognise the basic anatomical and pathological features demonstrated by each modality.
Making Judgements
• LO3. Evaluate the advantages, limitations, contraindications and appropriate use of imaging modalities and contrast media, taking into account patient safety and the principles of radiobiology and radiation protection.
Applying Knowledge and Understanding
• LO4. Interpret basic radiological images and integrate imaging findings with relevant clinical information to support diagnostic reasoning and patient assessment.

Metodi didattici
Teaching is delivered through face-to-face lectures supported by PowerPoint presentations and discussion of representative radiological cases. Lectures provide the theoretical foundations of the physical principles, tissue representation, clinical applications and safety considerations of the principal imaging modalities, enabling students to develop the knowledge and understanding required to describe the principles and appropriate use of diagnostic imaging (LO1). Case discussions reinforce the application of this knowledge by helping students recognise different imaging modalities, identify basic anatomical and pathological features and select the most appropriate imaging technique for common clinical scenarios (LO2). Students are also encouraged to evaluate the indications, contraindications and limitations of imaging modalities and contrast media, while considering the principles of radiobiology and radiation protection (LO3). Together, these teaching methods promote the interpretation of basic imaging findings within their clinical context and support the development of diagnostic reasoning required for subsequent clinical training (LO4).

Contenuti
The Radiology Traineeship introduces students to the basic principles and clinical applications of the principal diagnostic imaging modalities. The module provides the knowledge required to understand how medical images are generated, the characteristics of different imaging techniques and their appropriate use in clinical practice.
The programme covers:
• the physical principles of conventional radiography, computed tomography (CT), ultrasound (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI);
• tissue representation and basic anatomical appearances across the principal imaging modalities;
• the properties, indications and contraindications of contrast media used in diagnostic imaging;
• image quality, common imaging artefacts and the technological evolution of diagnostic imaging equipment;
• the basic principles of radiobiology, radiation protection and the safe use of ionising radiation in accordance with current legislation.
