Metodi didattici
Teaching methods include lectures, discussion of clinical cases, guided independent study, and use of the e-learning platform.
Lectures provide the theoretical foundations of haematology, haematologic oncology, and haematopathology, supporting the acquisition of knowledge related to normal haematopoiesis, disease mechanisms, classification, diagnosis, and treatment principles (LO1–LO2).
Interactive clinical case discussions support the application of knowledge to diagnostic scenarios, interpretation of laboratory and pathological findings, and the integration of clinical information for diagnostic reasoning (LO3–LO4).
Discussion activities and examination preparation support the communication of haematological concepts and clinical findings using appropriate medical terminology (LO5).

Contenuti
The module provides an integrated overview of haematology, covering the physiology of blood formation, the pathophysiology of haematological disorders, diagnostic approaches, and principles of treatment.
The programme begins with an introduction to normal haematopoiesis, including bone marrow function, haematopoietic stem cells, growth factors, and the regulation of blood cell production. The principles of haematological investigation and interpretation of abnormalities affecting erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets, and haemostasis are introduced.
The module addresses disorders of erythropoiesis and red blood cells, including the classification and pathophysiology of anaemias, disorders of iron metabolism, anaemia of inflammation, megaloblastic anaemias, haemoglobinopathies, haemolytic anaemias, and polycythaemia.
The principles of haemostasis and thrombosis are covered, including platelet disorders, inherited and acquired coagulation disorders, bleeding disorders, thrombotic conditions, and the principles of antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapy.
The module also includes disorders affecting white blood cells and lymphoid tissues, including abnormalities of granulocytes and monocytes, lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly, and the diagnostic approach to lymphoid disorders.
An overview of haematological malignancies is provided, including the general principles of classification, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment approaches of leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloproliferative neoplasms, myelodysplastic syndromes, and plasma cell neoplasms.
The module concludes with the principles of transfusion medicine, including transfusion biology and therapy, and an introduction to haematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
