Obiettivi Formativi

On completing the course, participants are able to:
- critically assess the application of existing frameworks in the context of Africa
- identify key themes for research on innovation and development in Africa;
- reflect on issues related to transformative innovation;
- apply key tools related to transformative innovation policy

Contenuti

The course aims to equip students with an understanding of key theoretical frameworks, research themes and empirical evidence surrounding innovation in Africa, emphasising its potential to foster economic development, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability. It also explores the role of public policy, and the modes of governance of transformative innovation. The course encourages active engagement and critical thinking, through interactive lectures, group discussions, and case study analyses.

o History of innovation and development studies in Africa
o Importance of transformative innovation: focus on inclusion and sustainability
o Key theories and frameworks in innovation and development economics
o Policy landscapes for supporting innovation in Africa

• Research themes
o Innovation for inclusive development
o Digital transformation
o Innovation as a driver of green and just transitions
o Transformative innovation policy and its application in Africa

Altre informazioni

Prof. Kraemer-Mbula is available to give a public talk within the framework of the 100 years Anniversary of the DSPS. Morever, within the Anniversary framework Prof. Kramaer-Mubula will be one of the participants of an international workshop about Building Innovation Capabilites to fight inequalities in the Africa to be organized in collaboration with prof. Chiappero (TBC).
