At the successful conclusion of this module, you should be able to demonstrate the following module level learning outcomes (MLOs): MLO.1 Knowledge & Understanding You will be able to detect cells in biological fluids and distinguish cancer cells from normal cells trough molecular analysis; MLO.2 Application You will be able to set up an experiment to develop a vaccine against a new target. MLO.3 Autonomy of Judgement You will be able to interpret results obtained by in vitro tests and correlate these data with clinical evidence. MLO.4 Communication Skills You will be able to work collaboratively with peers in lab settings. MLO.5 Learning Skills You will be able to reflect on lab learning and prepare for related exam questions.
Prerequisiti
The prerequisites are indicated in the Integrated Course Syllabus for BOD and include a knowledge of cancer biology.
Metodi didattici
This laboratory module by provides you with the opportunity to carry out practical exercises (MLO2., ML.O. 3) in the laboratory in small groups, working with peers (MLO.4., MLO-5). This model includes the following teaching methods: explanatory lectures and presentations (MLO.1), group-work and instructor guided lab exercises.
Verifica Apprendimento
The assessment process is indicated in the Integrated Course Syllabus for BOD.

Contenuti
This module aims to provide you with practical experience of laboratory-based work and will introduce you with practical experience of evaluating: count of synthetic blood samples associated to different clinical cases; analysis of cancer cells through immunohistochemistry, blood-Based Assays for Early Cancer Detection and DNA/RNA Microarrays; developing a Vaccine for a Novel Target. At the end of the laboratory, you will be able to understand practical approaches behind precision medicine. Throughout the module you will be divided in smaller groups (2-3 people). The focus of the module is on guided laboratory work, and you will gain direct experience of carrying out the activities previously described.
