Syllabus
Obiettivi Formativi
This course aims to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of several key areas of language acquisition under typical, atypical, and pathological conditions, as well as of typical patterns of language degeneration. In particular, the course aims to provide:
a) an advanced understanding of theoretical and computational models and of the interpretation of experimental data relating to language acquisition and degeneration;
b) a thorough understanding of the methods and experimental techniques employed in the study of language acquisition and in the analysis of atypical and pathological language production;
c) the ethical and professional awareness required to conduct language-acquisition research involving atypical and pathological populations.
Furthermore, the course aims to develop students’ ability to apply this knowledge and understanding effectively by:
a) enhancing their ability to conduct and evaluate research on language acquisition and the assessment of language disorders;
b) developing their competence in implementing and evaluating approaches used in clinical settings in the field of language degeneration;
c) fostering critical thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to synthesize ideas in the fields of language acquisition and degeneration;
d) applying ethical principles in both research and professional practice relating to language acquisition and degeneration.

Prerequisiti
The course prerequisites include a basic knowledge of general linguistics and psycholinguistics. Prospective students should be familiar with the fundamental concepts in these fields to effectively benefit from the course and learning materials.

Metodi didattici
The course will consist of lectures, supplemented by discussions of case studies, a hands-on laboratory session using computational tools, and a final group project presentation.
Verifica Apprendimento
The examination will consist of an oral assessment graded on a 30-point scale. Students may also choose to present a final group project, with a maximum of three students per group. In this case, the group project presentation will account for 60% of the final grade, while the oral assessment will account for the remaining 40%.
The oral examination, which is compulsory for all students regardless of whether they present a final project, will cover all the topics discussed during the course.
The assessment will be based on the completeness and accuracy of the answers, as well as on the student’s ability to construct well-supported arguments and critically apply the knowledge acquired during the course to real or realistic cases. The clarity, coherence, and precision of the student’s presentation will also be taken into consideration.
The examination is intended to assess students’ thorough understanding of the course content and their ability to apply theoretical knowledge effectively in clinical and experimental practice. Students will be expected to demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills in complex neuropsychological contexts, as well as the ability to establish meaningful connections among the various topics covered during the course.
The oral examination, which is compulsory for all students regardless of whether they present a final project, will cover all the topics discussed during the course.
