Obiettivi Formativi
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- demonstrate an advanced understanding of the main theoretical models in cognitive psychology, with particular reference to the Psychology of Aging;
- interpret and critically evaluate experimental data related to cognitive and socio-cognitive aging;
- demonstrate a thorough understanding of the research methods and experimental techniques used in the study of aging.

- apply theoretical and methodological knowledge to clinical contexts within cognitive and socio-cognitive psychology;

Prerequisiti
The course prerequisites include a basic knowledge of general psychology and cognitive psychology. Students are expected to be familiar with the fundamental concepts of both fields, including learning, motivation, emotions, intelligence, attention, memory, reasoning, and problem-solving. A basic understanding of these concepts is essential for engaging effectively with the course material and participating in class discussions.
Metodi didattici
This course will employ a variety of teaching and learning methods, combining traditional lectures with experiential learning activities, group discussions of scientific journal articles, and practical exercises.
Verifica Apprendimento
The examination will consist of 10 open-ended questions and will last 60 minutes. Each question is worth 3 points, for a maximum total score of 30 points.
The examination will cover the material and topics presented and discussed during the lectures. Students’ performance will be assessed based on the accuracy, clarity, and completeness of their answers, as well as their ability to explain, apply, and critically evaluate the concepts and theories addressed throughout the course.

Contenuti
This course falls within the field of cognitive psychology and focuses on the cognitive and socio-cognitive changes associated with aging, with applications to both clinical and research settings. The course will cover a range of topics in the Psychology of Aging, including theoretical and experimental perspectives, as well as clinical applications. A central theme throughout the course will be the interplay between aging and changes in cognitive, emotional, and social functioning in older adults.
The course will begin with an overview of the major theories and research methods used to study aging. Students will then explore recent advances in the study of the aging process from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Particular attention will be given to age-related changes in cognitive functioning, including fluid and crystallized intelligence, attention, memory, reasoning, and executive functioning. The course will also examine the distinction between normal and pathological aging, with a focus on subjective cognitive decline, mild cognitive impairment, and dementia.
